Star Trek

I'm going to be perfectly fucking honest with everyone. I have seen maybe 4 Star Trek films and not a single episode of any of the series. I would certainly classify myself a Star Wars nerd before a Trekie, and if you know me, you certainly know that I am a hardcore LOSTaway. And as a hardcore LOSTaway I would know the following names: J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, and Carlton Cuse. Not only are these the masterminds behind LOST, but they are also the masterminds behind this rendition of Star Trek. So needless to say, since I knew the head writers of LOST were behind this, I knew I was in for quite a treat.

But I say this to you now: Star Trek is fucking awesome. I mean everything about this movie is incredible. Zachary Quintos is incredible as Spock (on a side note: they really need to kill his character off in Heroes since he could have a very good future as a film actor; not that it matters since it is so horrible now it will be cancelled within the year), Chris Pine is a great Captain Kirk, Karl Urban is a great Colt McCoy, and Zoe Saldana is great as Spock's love intere.... I mean Uhura (I know Star Trek well enough to know they never hooked up in the series/movies).

The plot is magnificent and they wisely chose to make it in an alternate universe where they don't have to follow the original Star Trek continuity and they can make up their own plot as they go along. Instead of only catering to the nerds on this project, they also wisely catered to the mainstream audience. This will be the first Star Trek since Star Trek IV: The Return of Spock (which I thought wasn't that good) to reach a main stream audience. In fact this really doesn't feel like that much of a Star Trek movie. It feels far more like a Star Wars movie, and I honestly think it feels like more of a Star Wars movie than any of the prequel series (Revenge of the Sith included).

I sincerely hope J.J. Abrams continues with this series since he has made nothing short of a masterpiece here. This is the single best Star Trek movie since Wrath of the Khan. It is just as good as it if not better than WOTK (although Khan does have the better villain) . If the next one is even remotely this good we are in for a treat.
